Sales of light commercials slowing
Following the trend of the passenger market, the commercial market is experiencing a slowdown.
Commercial registrations for July were 3972 units, down 7.3 per cent compared with July 2018. Overall, the market to the end of July is down 5.2 per cent (4825 units).
Ford retained the market lead with 19 per cent market share (760 units) closely followed by Toyota also with 19 per cent (753 units) and Mitsubishi third with 11 per cent market share (451 units).
The Ford Ranger retained the top spot as the bestselling commercial model with a 17 per cent share (657 units) followed by the Toyota Hilux (13 per cent, 534 units) with the Mitsubishi Triton in third (11 per cent share, 451 units).
SUVs and light commercial vehicles remained the dominant sectors.
The top three segments in July were SUV medium with 20 per cent share followed by the Pick Up/Chassis Cab 4x4 segment with 16 per cent share and the SUV compact in third with 14 per cent market share.
Year-to-date SUVs and Pick-ups accounted for 69 per cent of the market while passenger cars comprised just 24 per cent of total sales.
