New S 1000 R now even more extreme
Last time we rode this bike it joined the elite two-second club for its best 0-100 run. Now BMW Motorrad has taken its street brawling S 1000 R and added even more lightness and power. The firm reckons it will “once again set the benchmark” in its segment.
Maximum torque of 114 Nm is on tap from 9250rpm but the curve is evidently now more linear for improved rideability. The top three gears are taller for more relaxed cruising, while engine drag control prevents rear wheel slippage.
Standard items include Dynamic Traction Control DTC, ABS Pro with banking angle optimisation and the three riding modes, "Rain", "Road" and "Dynamic". There’s also a rider configurable mode, allowing power wheelies, amongst other things.
The lighting units use LED technology, for optimised low and high beam performance. Indicators and rear lights also comprise LEDs. An adaptive turning headlight is an option, with extra LED elements.
Colours include racing red, silver and black, and the M package of red, white and blue.
