KTM 790 Adventure morphs to 890 variants
Two years ago KTM released its 790 Adventure middleweight dual purpose bike which is our current Bike of the Year. For 2021 it gets an update, and will be known as the KTM 890 Adventure.
The first two releases in the series are the Adventure R and a limited run R Rally Adventure, the pair based on a new engine platform offering added power and torque.
The R Rally is a proper off-road adventure model featuring components and settings derived from the efforts of the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Rally team.
It comes standard with top-of-the-range WP Pro components, fully adjustable at both ends, while the power output of the new EU5-ready four-stroke dohc parallel twin engine is boosted by a lightweight Akrapovic muffler.
The KTM 890 Adventure Rally model features specific chassis race settings, rally footpegs, a straight seat, clear screen and winglets, racing graphics, a Quickshifter+ system and Rally ride mode as standard.
Only 700 of these are being made.
The KTM 890 Adventure R builds on and improves upon the 790 Adventure R. The new 889cc engine generates an added 10hp (105hp at 8000rpm) and 12Nm extra (100Nm of torque at 6500rpm), compared with its predecessor. The crankshaft adds 20 per cent more rotating mass for enhanced low rev torque in the 2000-3000rpm area. KTM says the extra mass also means better cornering stability.
Other features include fully adjustable WP Xplor suspension, overhauled ABS software and new traction control algorithms for the KTM 890 Adventure R. Further updates include a reinforced clutch, improved ABS and TC functionality, updated transmission for faster gear changes, new handlebar switchgear for cruise control, chassis tweaks, uprated front and rear brakes and revised suspension settings.
Delivery of these new models begins before year end overseas, and a base KTM 890 Adventure model will follow.
