Mazda shows off trio of racing-inspired concepts
Mazda has built a trio of motorsports-inspired concepts, each with notable updates. They’re based on MX-5, Mazda3 and CX-5 models.
Common to the trio are unique paint, revised suspension, upgraded brakes, Alcantara steering wheels and shift knobs, and MazdaSpeed six-point harnesses and sport seats. The MX-5 and 3 get Fujitsubo stainless mufflers, while the hot CX-5 comes with a milder exhaust upgrade.
As to individual updates, the MX-5 gets a body kit with changes to the front, rear and sides as well as 17-inch Rays wheels wrapped in Bridgestone sports rubber. There’s a Cusco roll bar, a Mazdaspeed rear spoiler, and an MS strut bar and lower arm bar. Inside, the door trim, decoration panel, shift boot, center console lid, and parking brake boot are all finished in Alcantara. An aluminium pedal set rounds off the interior changes.
The special Mazda 3 gets a ‘Signature Style’ aero kit, an upgraded strut bar and lower arm bar and 18-inch Rays wheels with similar tyres to the MX-5.
Rounding out the trio, the CX-5 also gets fresh aero items, an Auto Exe muffler, 20-inch Rays rims and a new wheel nut set. The M3 and CX-5 both get a scuff plate, premium floor mats and sports pedals.
Unfortunately, Mazda hasn’t said why it developed these concepts or whether they will go into production. The company has been non-committal regarding a potential Mazdaspeed3 hot hatch so this may be a first step down that track.
