Local specs confirmed for refreshed Mazda2
The refreshed Mazda2 was announced earlier this year for overseas markets and today Mazda has confirmed the local specs.
“The increased demand for SUVs has resulted in a decline in this [light car] segment but to ensure the Mazda2 remains relevant to buyers the Mazda designers and engineers have delivered on the company’s “driver-first” ethos with upgraded features and the company’s latest - generation technologies,” Mazda New Zealand Managing Director, David Hodge, says.
New Zealand will get two variants of the 2, appropriately, the GSX and the Limited. Both come with the SkyActiv-G 1.5-litre engine making 81kW/141Nm and a six-speed automatic, same as before.
Noise, vibration and harshness improvements should deliver a more refined ride while new front seats add comfort they tell us.
The Mazda2 gets G-Vectoring Control Plus for the first time which, in Mazda’s words, “enhances handling stability and achieves a unified feel of dynamic performance by using the brakes to add direct yaw moment control and improves the vehicle’s ability to accurately track steering inputs and crisply exit corners.” Basically, it helps provide smoother cornering.
GVC Plus also increases comfort as “smoother G-force transitions reduce the amount of body sway experienced by the driver and passengers.”Safety is well taken care of with smart city braking (forward), autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning included range-wide. All models also get LED daytime running lights, auto headlights, blind-spot monitoring, rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.
Additional kit on the Limited includes a head-up display, active cruise, smart city braking (reverse), leather seat trim, privacy glass and traffic sign recognition.
Mazdacare features as standard with every new Mazda2, which comprises a Mazda Genuine Factory Warranty and Mazda On Call Roadside Assistance for a five-year, unlimited-kilometre period and Genuine Mazda Servicing for three years/100,000 km (whichever occurs first) at no extra cost.
Price starts at $28,095 for the GSX and $30,095 for the Limited and they will be available from mid-November.
