Audi has been going hard on its RS fleet recently, having revealed new versions of the RS 6 and RS 7. At the Frankfurt Motor Show, the four-ringed brand said that quicker RS hybrids could be on the way.

Victor Underberg, Audi Sport's head of technical development, talked to Road and Track and said that if demand was there for a Competition or Performance model, then Audi would consider making it.

Audi Sport’s managing director, Oliver Hoffman, later confirmed that plug-in hybrid tech was being worked on for RS models, although wouldn’t be drawn on when or for which models.

At the moment, both the RS 6 and 7 have mild-hybrid systems connected to their boisterous twin-turbo V8s, offering 447kW. A plug-in version of the A7 was recently revealed, with 270kW combined, a 0-100km/h time of 5.7 seconds and an electric range of 45km at speeds of up to 135km/h.
